🧬 Home Chemotherapy Nursing Care in Pertuis

Registered nurse visiting your home in Pertuis for chemotherapy monitoring, patient support and removal of the portable chemotherapy infuser, in coordination with your oncology team. On prescription, English spoken.

Step by step

How does home chemotherapy nursing work?

  1. Oncology prescription & pharmacy supplies

Your oncologist or hospital team issues the prescription. The necessary supplies (sterile dressings, antiseptic, cytotoxic waste container) are collected from the pharmacy before my visit.

  2. Coordinated appointment

The visit is scheduled according to your chemotherapy protocol. Contact me by phone or WhatsApp to organise the timing around your treatment cycle.

  3. Clinical monitoring & support

I assess your general condition, check the injection site or catheter, and watch for early side effects (nausea, fever, mucositis, etc.), reporting any concerns promptly to your oncology team.

  4. Infuser removal

I remove the portable infuser or perfuser at the end of the treatment cycle, following cytotoxic waste safety protocols and ensuring full traceability with your medical team.

My role

Why home nursing during chemotherapy?

Ambulatory chemotherapy allows you to return home with a portable infuser that delivers treatment gradually over 24 to 48 hours. Having a nurse remove the infuser at home avoids an additional hospital visit — often exhausting during treatment.

Beyond the technical procedure, my role is to support the patient and their family: monitoring for early side effects, answering questions, assessing general wellbeing at each visit and liaising with the oncology team if anything is concerning.

For patients with a central venous catheter (port-a-cath, PICC line), I also carry out catheter maintenance and monitoring according to the prescribed protocol.

FAQ

Questions about home chemotherapy nursing

Who issues the prescription for home chemotherapy nursing?
The prescription is issued by your oncologist or the hospital department managing your treatment. It specifies the nursing acts required at home (monitoring, infuser removal, catheter care, etc.) and their frequency.
Where do I get the supplies?
The specific supplies (sterile dressings, antiseptic, cytotoxic waste container — DASRI) are collected from the pharmacy on prescription before my home visit.
Is home chemotherapy nursing covered by Social Security?
Yes, nursing acts linked to chemotherapy at home are reimbursed on prescription. 100% coverage (ALD long-term illness scheme) generally applies in the context of active cancer treatment. I use the tiers payant system — you do not pay the Social Security portion upfront.
What should I do in case of a serious side effect?
If you develop a fever above 38.5°C, chills, difficulty breathing or any unusual symptom, contact your oncology department immediately or call 15 (French emergency services). I will also give you specific alert criteria for your protocol at each visit.
